The opinion about raw milk is slowly changing. There is increasing research interest in the potential health benefits of fresh, unprocessed milk (read: raw milk). Therefore, an increased number of raw milk products are offered in several regions of the world. The health benefits mentioned are the reduction of asthma, allergies, bowel problems and ear infections. The discussions about advantages and disadvantages also include the potential dangers of raw milk products. Hopefully, the authorities responsible for the risk assessment of raw milk are becoming more aware that in future the benefits might outweigh the risks. When raw milk producers are trained and have implemented production and hygiene rules, then the consumption of raw milk products is low in risk. An American microbiologist, who drinks raw milk, has stated: “The risk that I’m exposed to a car accident, while picking up the milk from the farm is far greater than the risk of drinking the milk itself.” It cannot be stated clearer.
